Vancouver violin teacher, specializing in young children.
I specialize in instructing children starting as young as 3 years old. It can be a challenge to engage and motivate students at such young ages. I use educational games, songs and technique training exercises that emphasize a fun atmosphere while addressing key material. I believe that music should be fun and aim for lessons and practice to be just that. At the very core the fun of it is why I play and I think it is part of the purpose of music. I have based my teaching approach on my background in Early Childhood Education, aspects of the Royal Conservatory of Canada, traditional fiddling pedagogy, and other teaching methods. I believe that each child is different and I tailor my teaching approach to each student as I get to know them individually.
I conducted the Chestermere High School String Ensemble for 3 years and coached with the Bow Valley Fiddlers for 2 years. I have played in the Calgary Zoo Orchestra and a baroque orchestra as well as a bluegrass band, The Flat Top Flyers.
